Butenafine Hydrochloride belongs to the benzylamine class of antifungal agents. It exerts its antifungal action by inhibiting the enzyme squalene epoxidase, which is essential for the synthesis of ergosterol, a key component of the fungal cell membrane. Inhibition of ergosterol synthesis leads to increased intracellular accumulation of squalene, resulting in disruption of the fungal cell membrane and eventual cell death.
Butenafine demonstrates fungicidal activity against dermatophytes and fungistatic activity against yeasts, providing broad-spectrum antifungal coverage with sustained efficacy.

Indications

Tenafin Cream 1% is indicated for the treatment of:

• Tinea pedis (athlete’s foot)

• Tinea cruris (jock itch)

• Tinea corporis (ringworm)

• Cutaneous candidiasis and other susceptible superficial fungal infections

Dosage and Administration

• Clean and dry the affected area thoroughly before application

• Apply a thin layer of Tenafin Cream 1% to the affected area and surrounding skin once or twice daily, or as directed by a physician

• Continue treatment for the full prescribed duration, even if symptoms improve earlier

• For external use only

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to butenafine hydrochloride or any component of the formulation
