Vesanoid Capsule 10 mg (Tretinoin – Oral) is a specialized anticancer medication used primarily in the treatment of certain types of leukemia. It belongs to a class of drugs known as retinoids, which are derivatives of vitamin A. Vesanoid Capsule is particularly effective in treating Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia (APL), a subtype of leukemia that affects the blood and bone marrow. This medicine works by promoting the maturation of abnormal white blood cells, helping restore normal blood cell development.

Vesanoid Capsule contains Tretinoin, also known as all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA). Unlike traditional chemotherapy drugs that kill cancer cells directly, tretinoin works by inducing the differentiation and maturation of immature leukemia cells.
In APL, immature white blood cells called promyelocytes accumulate in the bone marrow and bloodstream, interfering with the production of normal blood cells. Tretinoin binds to specific receptors within these abnormal cells and stimulates them to mature into normal white blood cells. As these cells mature, they lose their ability to multiply uncontrollably and eventually die naturally.
This unique mechanism allows Vesanoid Capsule to treat leukemia by correcting abnormal cell development rather than simply destroying cancer cells. Because of this targeted action, tretinoin is considered one of the most important therapies for APL.
Vesanoid Capsule 10 mg is mainly prescribed for the treatment of Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia, especially in patients who are newly diagnosed or who have relapsed after other treatments.
Doctors may use this medication:
As initial therapy to induce remission in APL
In combination with chemotherapy or other anticancer drugs
In relapsed or resistant cases of APL
Treatment with tretinoin has dramatically improved the survival rate of patients with acute promyelocytic leukemia, making it one of the most effective targeted treatments in modern oncology.
Vesanoid Capsule should only be used under the supervision of an experienced oncologist or hematologist. The dosage is usually calculated based on the patient’s body surface area and medical condition.
The capsules are taken orally, typically in divided doses twice daily. Patients should swallow the capsules with water and may take them with or without food according to their doctor’s instructions.
Treatment usually continues until remission is achieved, often for 30 to 90 days, depending on the patient’s response and overall treatment plan. Because this medication is part of a specialized cancer therapy, patients are closely monitored during treatment.
Like many cancer treatments, Vesanoid Capsule may cause side effects. Some common side effects include:
Headache
Fever
Dry skin or lips
Bone or joint pain
Fatigue
Nausea or vomiting
These symptoms are often manageable and may decrease as treatment progresses.
A rare but serious condition known as Differentiation Syndrome (also called retinoic acid syndrome) may occur during treatment. Symptoms may include fever, breathing difficulty, weight gain, and fluid accumulation. Immediate medical attention is required if these symptoms appear.

Before starting Vesanoid Capsule, patients should inform their doctor about any existing medical conditions, particularly liver disease, high cholesterol levels, or other health problems.
Tretinoin can cause severe birth defects, so it must not be used during pregnancy. Women of childbearing age should use effective contraception during treatment and for a specified period afterward.
Regular blood tests and medical monitoring are necessary during therapy to assess treatment response and detect potential complications.
Vesanoid Capsule should be stored at room temperature in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. The medication should remain in its original packaging and be kept out of reach of children.
