Indications

Xovir Cream 5% is indicated for:

• Herpes labialis (cold sores on lips and face)
• Genital herpes simplex virus infections (external lesions)
• Initial and recurrent herpes skin infections
• Localized herpes virus outbreaks on skin and mucous membranes

Mechanism of Action

Acyclovir is a nucleoside analogue that selectively targets virus-infected skin cells. Once activated inside infected cells, it inhibits viral DNA polymerase, blocking viral DNA replication. This helps stop the spread of the herpes virus at the local site and supports faster healing of lesions.

Dosage and Administration

• Apply a thin layer of cream to the affected area
• Usually applied 4–5 times daily, as directed by a physician
• Start application as early as possible after the first signs of infection
• Wash hands before and after application
• Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and internal mucosal surfaces
