Zolium 0.5 mg is a potent benzodiazepine sedative indicated for the management of anxiety disorders, panic disorder (with or without agoraphobia), and short-term relief of anxiety associated with depression. It acts on the central nervous system to produce anxiolytic, sedative, and muscle-relaxant effects, helping patients achieve symptomatic relief from excessive anxiety and related symptoms.

Benzodiazepine Sedatives
Zolium 0.5 mg is prescribed for:
Anxiety Disorders: Generalized anxiety and stress-related conditions
Short-Term Anxiety Relief: Management of acute anxiety episodes
Anxiety Associated with Depression
Panic Disorder: With or without agoraphobia
Zolium 0.5 mg binds with high affinity to the GABA-benzodiazepine receptor complex in the central nervous system. By enhancing the effect of the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA, Zolium increases chloride ion influx into neurons, hyperpolarizing the cell membrane and reducing excessive neuronal excitability. It interacts with benzodiazepine receptors BNZ1 (sleep mediation) and BNZ2 (muscle relaxation, anticonvulsant activity, motor coordination, and memory), producing its anxiolytic and sedative effects.
Adults:
Initial dose: 0.25 mg, 2–3 times daily
Dose may be increased in 0.25 mg increments according to patient response
Maximum usual dose: 4 mg/day (some panic disorder cases may require up to 10 mg/day under careful supervision)
Elderly and Debilitated Patients:
Initial dose: 0.125 mg, 2–3 times daily
Gradual increases based on tolerance and clinical response
Administration Tips:
Tablets should be taken intact; not to be chewed, crushed, or broken
Discontinuation should be gradual (reducing by 0.5 mg every 3 days) to prevent withdrawal effects
CNS depressants, other psychotropic drugs, anticonvulsants, antihistamines, alcohol, and oral contraceptives may enhance sedation
Caution with concurrent therapy affecting CNS activity
Hypersensitivity to Zolium or other benzodiazepines
Myasthenia gravis, acute narrow-angle glaucoma
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Infants
Common:
Drowsiness, light-headedness, mild headache, confusion, depression
Dry mouth, constipation, and other mild gastrointestinal disturbances
Precautions:
Risk of psychological and physical dependence; use should be carefully monitored
Caution in patients with hepatic or renal impairment, chronic pulmonary insufficiency, or sleep apnea
Symptoms:
Somnolence, confusion, impaired coordination, diminished reflexes, coma
Management:
Supportive care, gastric lavage if recent ingestion
Monitor respiratory and cardiovascular function
Category D: Avoid during pregnancy
May be excreted in breast milk; nursing is not recommended
Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Zolium 0.5 mg is a triazole analog of 1,4-benzodiazepines. It produces anxiolytic, sedative, and hypnotic effects by enhancing GABA activity at the benzodiazepine receptor complex, causing dose-dependent central nervous system depression and relief from excessive anxiety.
Safety and efficacy in individuals under 18 years have not been established.
