Intamycin Injection 20 mg/2 ml is a sterile injectable formulation containing Gentamicin Sulfate, a broad-spectrum aminoglycoside antibiotic widely used for the treatment of serious bacterial infections. It is effective against a wide range of Gram-negative and selected Gram-positive organisms and is commonly used in hospital and clinical settings where rapid and reliable antimicrobial action is required.

Each 2 ml injection contains:
Gentamicin Sulfate BP equivalent to Gentamicin 20 mg
Aminoglycoside Antibiotic
Gentamicin is a bactericidal antibiotic that exerts its antimicrobial action by binding irreversibly to the 30S subunit of bacterial ribosomes. This binding interferes with protein synthesis, leading to the production of defective proteins and eventual bacterial cell death. Gentamicin is particularly effective against aerobic Gram-negative bacteria, including Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, Proteus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacter, and Serratia species. It also shows activity against certain Gram-positive organisms, especially when used in combination with beta-lactam antibiotics.
Following intramuscular or intravenous administration, gentamicin is rapidly distributed into extracellular fluids. It is not significantly metabolized and is primarily excreted unchanged by the kidneys through glomerular filtration. Therefore, dosage adjustment is necessary in patients with impaired renal function.
Intamycin Injection is indicated for the treatment of severe infections caused by susceptible microorganisms, including:
Septicemia and bacteremia
Lower respiratory tract infections
Urinary tract infections
Intra-abdominal infections, including peritonitis
Skin and soft tissue infections
Bone and joint infections
Central nervous system infections, including meningitis
Serious hospital-acquired infections
It may also be used in combination therapy for endocarditis and other severe systemic infections where synergistic antibacterial activity is required.
Intamycin Injection may be administered by intramuscular or intravenous route.
Dosage depends on the severity of infection, patient age, body weight, and renal function.
Treatment duration and dosing schedule should be determined by a registered physician.
Therapeutic drug monitoring is recommended during prolonged therapy to minimize toxicity.
Known hypersensitivity to gentamicin or other aminoglycosides
History of aminoglycoside-induced ototoxicity
Severe renal impairment unless benefits outweigh risks
Prolonged use may result in nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity; renal function and hearing should be monitored regularly.
Use with caution in elderly patients, neonates, and those with pre-existing kidney disorders.
Concomitant use with other nephrotoxic or ototoxic drugs should be avoided where possible.
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed and prescribed by a physician.
Store below 30°C.
Protect from light.
Keep out of reach of children.
