Kilbac DS 250 mg/5 ml is a dry syrup formulation containing Cefuroxime, a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic with broad-spectrum activity. It is especially suitable for pediatric patients and individuals who prefer liquid dosage forms. Kilbac DS is effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including β-lactamase–producing strains, and is used to treat mild to moderate infections of the respiratory tract, skin, urinary tract, and other body systems.

Second Generation Cephalosporins
Kilbac DS 250 mg/5 ml is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible organisms, including:
Ear, Nose, and Throat Infections
Pharyngitis and tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes
Acute bacterial otitis media caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis (β-lactamase producing strains), or Streptococcus pyogenes
Acute bacterial maxillary sinusitis caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae or Haemophilus influenzae
Lower Respiratory Tract Infections
Community-acquired pneumonia
Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
Secondary bacterial infections of acute bronchitis
Skin and Skin-Structure Infections
Caused by Staphylococcus aureus (including β-lactamase producing strains) or Streptococcus pyogenes
Urinary Tract Infections
Caused by Escherichia coli or Klebsiella pneumoniae
Bone and Joint Infections
Caused by Staphylococcus aureus
Other Infections
Gonorrhoea caused by penicillinase-producing and non-producing strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae
Early Lyme disease (erythema migrans) caused by Borrelia burgdorferi
Multidrug-resistant typhoid fever
Cefuroxime is a bactericidal antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis. It is resistant to many bacterial β-lactamase enzymes, making it effective against organisms resistant to ampicillin and amoxicillin. Its broad antimicrobial spectrum ensures reliable activity against common community-acquired pathogens.

No potentially hazardous drug interactions have been reported with Cefuroxime.
Kilbac DS is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics.
Cefuroxime is generally well tolerated. Infrequent and usually mild adverse effects include:
Skin rashes
Gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea or diarrhea
Prolonged use may lead to overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including Candida species.
Cefuroxime is classified as US FDA Pregnancy Category B. It should be used during pregnancy only if clearly necessary. Cefuroxime is excreted in human milk; therefore, caution is advised when administering to breastfeeding mothers.
Use with caution in patients receiving potent diuretics
Caution in patients with a history of colitis
Although cross-reactivity with penicillin allergy has been reported, it is generally uncommon at recommended doses
Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Cefuroxime acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, resulting in bacterial cell death. Its resistance to β-lactamase enzymes allows effective treatment of infections caused by resistant bacterial strains.
