Ulticort Plus Lotion 0.01% + 0.045% is a topical combination therapy containing Halobetasol Propionate (0.01%) and Tazarotene (0.045%), formulated for the treatment of psoriasis and other corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses. This lotion combines the anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties of a potent corticosteroid with the keratolytic and anti-proliferative effects of a topical retinoid, providing a dual mechanism to effectively manage psoriatic lesions.
Halobetasol Propionate, a super-potent corticosteroid, rapidly reduces redness, itching, and inflammation, while Tazarotene, a synthetic retinoid, normalizes abnormal keratinocyte differentiation and reduces scaling. The combination allows for faster lesion clearance, improved patient outcomes, and reduced long-term corticosteroid exposure compared to monotherapy.
Ulticort Plus Lotion is ideal for patients with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis or localized lesions requiring potent anti-inflammatory action along with keratinocyte regulation.

Topical corticosteroid and retinoid combination
Ulticort Plus Lotion 0.01% + 0.045% is indicated for:
Plaque psoriasis: Reduces erythema, scaling, and plaque thickness
Corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses: Effective in inflammatory skin conditions requiring potent steroid therapy
Hyperproliferative skin conditions: Normalizes excessive keratinocyte turnover seen in psoriatic plaques
This lotion is particularly useful in patients who require both rapid anti-inflammatory action and long-term control of scaling and hyperkeratosis.
Halobetasol Propionate:
A super-potent corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive effects. Halobetasol suppresses inflammatory mediator release, reduces vascular permeability, and inhibits immune cell infiltration in the affected skin.
Tazarotene:
A topical retinoid that selectively binds to retinoic acid receptors (RAR-β and RAR-γ). It regulates keratinocyte differentiation and proliferation, reduces epidermal hyperplasia, and decreases inflammation associated with psoriasis. Tazarotene also reduces scaling and promotes lesion resolution over time.
Combined Action:
Halobetasol provides rapid symptomatic relief from redness, itching, and swelling
Tazarotene addresses the underlying hyperproliferation of keratinocytes, improving long-term lesion control
The combination allows for shorter corticosteroid exposure while maintaining efficacy
Halobetasol: Suppresses inflammation by modulating cytokine release and immune cell activity
Tazarotene: Regulates keratinocyte proliferation and differentiation, reduces plaque thickness and scaling
The synergistic effect results in faster lesion clearance and improved symptom management
Apply a thin layer of Ulticort Plus Lotion 1–2 times daily to affected areas, or as prescribed by a physician
Gently rub until fully absorbed
Use the lotion for the shortest duration required to control symptoms, usually up to 4 weeks
Avoid applying on broken skin, mucous membranes, or sensitive areas
Wash hands thoroughly after application
Special Considerations:
Avoid excessive use to minimize risk of corticosteroid-related skin atrophy
Avoid combining with other topical corticosteroids, keratolytics, or retinoids unless prescribed
Hypersensitivity to Halobetasol, Tazarotene, or other components of the lotion
Patients with viral, bacterial, or fungal infections of the skin unless treated appropriately
Pregnancy and lactation unless clearly indicated and supervised by a physician
Common adverse effects may include:
Mild burning, itching, or stinging at the application site
Dryness, peeling, or redness
Temporary irritation due to retinoid activity
Prolonged use may lead to:
Skin atrophy, striae, or telangiectasia from corticosteroid
Photosensitivity due to retinoid exposure
Secondary infections if the skin barrier is compromised
Avoid prolonged use on large areas to reduce systemic corticosteroid absorption
Limit exposure to sunlight and ultraviolet therapy during treatment due to retinoid sensitivity
Discontinue if severe irritation, rash, or allergic reactions occur
Use with caution in elderly patients or those with thin or fragile skin
Pregnancy: Tazarotene is teratogenic; use in pregnant women is contraindicated. Halobetasol should be used only if the potential benefit outweighs the risk.
Lactation: Avoid use on large areas to prevent systemic absorption; consult a physician before application
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight
Keep out of reach of children.
