Vaxitet Injection 40 IU/0.5 ml is an adsorbed tetanus vaccine used to prevent tetanus infection, a serious and potentially life-threatening disease caused by Clostridium tetani. This vaccine stimulates the immune system to produce protective antibodies against the tetanus toxin, offering active immunization and long-lasting protection. Vaxitet is suitable for both primary immunization and booster doses in adults and children, contributing to global tetanus control efforts.

Vaccines & Toxoids
Active Immunizing Agent
Vaxitet contains tetanus toxoid, an inactivated form of the tetanus neurotoxin. The toxoid is adsorbed onto an adjuvant to enhance the immune response. Upon administration, the vaccine triggers the immune system to produce antibodies that neutralize the tetanus toxin. These antibodies provide protective immunity, allowing the body to respond rapidly and effectively if exposed to Clostridium tetani.
The vaccine does not contain live bacteria and cannot cause tetanus. Protective antibody levels are generally achieved after the full primary vaccination series, and booster doses help maintain immunity over time.
Vaxitet Injection is indicated for:
Active immunization against tetanus in adults and children
Use as a primary series in individuals with no prior tetanus vaccination
Booster doses for individuals who have previously completed the primary vaccination series
Post-exposure prophylaxis in cases of potentially tetanus-prone wounds, particularly if the vaccination history is incomplete or uncertain
Adults and adolescents: 0.5 ml per dose intramuscularly
Children: 0.5 ml per dose intramuscularly
Primary immunization: Usually given as a series of 3 doses, with 4–8 weeks between each dose
Booster dose: Recommended every 10 years to maintain immunity
The injection should be administered deep into the deltoid muscle (or anterolateral thigh in infants)
For post-exposure prophylaxis, additional doses may be recommended depending on the wound type and vaccination history
Store at 2°C to 8°C
Do not freeze
Protect from light
Keep out of reach of children
Known hypersensitivity to any component of the vaccine, including the adjuvant
Individuals who have experienced severe allergic reactions to a previous dose of tetanus vaccine
Administer with caution in individuals with a history of severe allergic reactions
Postpone vaccination in cases of moderate or severe acute illness until recovery
Inform the healthcare provider about any chronic illness or immune system disorders
Monitor for rare adverse events following immunization
Vaxitet Injection is generally well tolerated. Common side effects include:
Mild pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site
Low-grade fever
Fatigue or mild malaise
Rarely, headache or muscle aches
Severe allergic reactions are extremely rare but require immediate medical attention.
Tetanus vaccination is safe during pregnancy and is recommended to protect both mother and newborn against neonatal tetanus
Can be administered during breastfeeding
Vaxitet Injection induces active immunity by stimulating the production of antitoxin antibodies against tetanus toxin. Upon future exposure to Clostridium tetani, these antibodies neutralize the toxin, preventing the development of tetanus symptoms such as muscle stiffness and spasms.
