Lotepro DS Suspension 1% is a topical ophthalmic corticosteroid containing Loteprednol Etabonate, specifically formulated to manage steroid-responsive inflammatory conditions of the eye. It is widely used to reduce ocular inflammation, redness, pain, and swelling associated with allergic and post-surgical eye conditions. Loteprednol is a “soft steroid,” designed to provide potent anti-inflammatory action with a lower risk of corticosteroid-related side effects when used as directed.

Loteprednol Etabonate is a corticosteroid that exerts its anti-inflammatory effect by inhibiting multiple inflammatory mediators. It is thought to act through the induction of phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins, known as lipocortins. These proteins suppress the release of arachidonic acid from membrane phospholipids, thereby reducing the synthesis of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes. As a result, Loteprednol effectively decreases edema, capillary dilation, leukocyte migration, fibroblast proliferation, collagen deposition, and scar formation associated with ocular inflammation.
Lotepro DS Suspension 1% should be used as directed by a physician.
Shake the bottle well before each use.
For steroid-responsive ocular inflammation: Instill 1 drop into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye(s) four times daily.
For post-operative inflammation: Instill 1 drop into the conjunctival sac of the operated eye(s) four times daily, starting 24 hours after surgery and continuing for up to two weeks.
The duration and frequency of treatment may be adjusted based on clinical response. Therapy should not be discontinued abruptly without medical advice.

Since Loteprednol Etabonate is minimally absorbed systemically after topical ocular administration, clinically significant interactions with systemic medications are not expected.
Lotepro DS Suspension 1% is contraindicated in:
Most viral diseases of the cornea and conjunctiva
Patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to Loteprednol Etabonate, other corticosteroids, or any component of the formulation
Possible side effects include increased intraocular pressure, glaucoma with optic nerve damage, visual field defects, cataract formation, delayed wound healing, secondary ocular infections, and, rarely, perforation of the globe with prolonged use.
For ophthalmic use only. If used for 10 days or longer, intraocular pressure should be monitored regularly. Prolonged use may increase the risk of glaucoma, cataract formation, or secondary infections. Use with caution in patients with a history of herpes simplex infection of the eye.
Store in a cool and dry place. Protect from light. Keep out of reach of children.
